DirecTV called. They were eager to let me know about all kinds of exciting offers — but they couldn’t, so I should contact them and take myself off their do-not-call list.

    And since they weren’t trying to sell you anything, that’s not a do-not-call violation. Clever.

    And really annoying. Wow. There’s a reason I don’t have a phone.

    I was looking into satellite TV a while back. When I called Direct TV the rep said she needed my credit card number to help verify my location and assist in determining what channels and features were available in my area. Huh? Before she could (or would) do anything else, she required it. Thanks, but no thanks DTV.
